This is a collection of the bound editions of 'The Strand Magazine: An Illustrated Monthly', from it's first issue (January) 1891-1922 (December), all having been published before 1923 and thus in the public domain in the United States of America, and many other countries. Each bound volume has 6 issues, starting from Jan-June, and then July-Dec of each year. This collection goes from issue number 1-384 in a the first 64 bound volumes of the magazine, which is slightly more then half of all the issues published. These files were digitized by Google from the collections at the 'University of Michigan', 'Indiana University' and 'Princeton University'. They are from the site http://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/000642318 and are currently (as of July 26, 2011) quoted as "Public Domain in the United States" at that site. Volumes 65-118, issues (January 1923) #385-711 (March 1950, the last issue), are currently not in the public domain, are still in copyright, and thus not currently present in this collection.
The files are titled in this way, 'The Strand Magazine, 1891a Vol. I, Jan-Jun', 'The Strand Magazine, 1891b Vol. II, Jul-Dec' to help keep them in order and allow readers to quickly find the volume they are searching. The PDF page numbers are not the same as those in the issues, which continue the page numbering from 1 onward through the six issues, and start again at page 1 and continues upward through the next six issues. Most issues were between 100-150 pages long, so the page numbers in the volume would sometimes reach nearly 900 pages.
{Note to the Reader: The reader may notice from time to time that a white cover seems to have been used to blank out certain imgages possibly during the digitization prosess. In issues from 1916 onward some of the adversisments are present, along with the original issue covers.}

Subject: Can you add 1923 to 1927 ?
The years passing, the volumes after 1922 became free of copyright...
Any way to add those in public domain since you uploaded the batch from 1891 to 1922 ?

Subject: Error report: PDF file naming for The Strand Magazine
Two of the 6-month bound volumes of "The Strand Magazine" pdf files are named
erroneously. For all 6-month volumes, you've named the Jan-Jun volumes "...{year}a..."
and all the Jul-Dec volumes "...{year}b..."
Yet this volume:
TheStrandMagazine1904aVol.XxviiJul-dec.pdf
is labeled Jul-dec (should be Jan-Jun)
and this volume:
TheStrandMagazine1908bVol.XxxviJan-jun.pdf
is labeled Jan-jun (should be Jul-dec).
This error may (presumably) also apply to formats other than .pdf
Thank you. I am very much enjoying being able to read (uninterrupted) multi-part series in such an interesting magazine.

I've always wondered about this magazine, having heard how old it was. I never thought it would be so interesting and filled with all kinds of facts and fictions. I am so thankful to all who worked to put this classic piece of history together. Thank you for making it available to all.
